Indian Man Suffers Cardiac Arrest While Diving
A young and talented Indian engineer lost his life during a scuba diving training session in Dubai. The sudden death of Issac Paul Olakkengil, just 29 years old, has left his family and the Indian community in the UAE in deep shock.
A Holiday Turns Tragic
Issac was on vacation with his wife and younger brother to enjoy the Eid Al Adha holidays. All three were attending a scuba diving training session at Jumeirah Beach, a popular spot in Dubai known for beginner-level diving.
However, during the session, something went wrong.
According to Issac’s uncle, David Pyarilos, Issac appeared to be in distress underwater. “It seems he couldn’t breathe properly and drifted away from the group,” he said. Rescuers acted quickly and brought all three to shore—Reshma (his wife) was rescued first, followed by Ivin (his brother), and then Issac.
Issac was taken to the hospital immediately. But despite doctors’ efforts to revive him, he could not be saved. Doctors suspect the cause was a sudden cardiac arrest during the dive.
Emotional Toll on the Family
The emotional trauma of witnessing the incident took a toll on Issac’s younger brother, Ivin, who collapsed upon reaching the hospital. He was kept under medical observation and is now stable.
Due to the shock of the incident, Ivin wasn’t informed of Issac’s death until the next day, on June 7. Friends say the brothers shared a powerful bond, making the news even harder to bear.
Investigation Underway
The Dubai Police have begun a thorough investigation into the matter. As part of the standard procedure, the scuba diving equipment used during the training has been seized for examination. The training took place in a licensed diving area, which tourists and beginners commonly use.
Officials are now looking into whether all safety guidelines were followed and if any equipment failure or health screening issues contributed to the tragedy.
Health and Safety
This tragic event reminds us of the importance of health screenings before adventure activities, even for young and healthy individuals. Cardiac arrests can happen suddenly and without warning, especially in physically demanding environments like underwater diving.
It also highlights the need for:
- Certified trainers and equipment
- Emergency medical backup during training
- Proper briefing and supervision
Scuba diving is generally safe when done with precautions, but pre-existing heart or respiratory issues can turn it dangerous.
Conclusion
The family is now completing legal formalities to bring Issac’s body back to Kerala for his final rites. His uncle, Mr. Pyarilos, is assisting with the legal process and paperwork.
The loss of Issac Paul is more than just a news headline it’s a reminder of the fragility of life, especially during high-risk activities. As more young professionals seek adventure and travel, this incident underlines the importance of personal health awareness, safety checks, and preparedness.
