Fake Doctor Exposed: Kerala SHRC Demands Action!

Summary: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Medical Council Registrar to take criminal action against a quack practicing medicine without a valid degree. Despite a 2021 directive, no action was taken against Robin Gurusingh, who falsely claimed to be a doctor. The SHRC now demands accountability and swift prosecution under the Kerala Medical Practitioners Act, 2021.

A Shocking Case of Medical Fraud

Imagine trusting a doctor only to find out they never had a medical degree! That’s exactly what happened in Kerala, where the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has stepped in to take action against a quack who falsely posed as a medical professional.

SHRC’s Strict Orders: Prosecute Under Medical Law

SHRC Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas has instructed the Medical Council Registrar to initiate criminal proceedings under the Kerala Medical Practitioners Act, 2021. The accused, Robin Gurusingh, had been illegally practicing medicine, despite a directive issued back in 2021 to prosecute him under Sections 42 and 43 of the Act.

Why Was Action Delayed for Two Years?

The commission criticized the Medical Council Registrar for failing to act sooner. The SHRC is now demanding a detailed explanation within a month and has ordered immediate criminal action under Sections 40, 41, 42, and 43 of the Act.

The Investigation That Exposed the Fraud

This case surfaced after Sreekumar, a vigilant citizen, lodged a complaint that Gurusingh was falsely claiming to be a doctor and even advertising his services at Chackai in Kerala’s capital. A Medical Council investigation confirmed that Gurusingh was not registered in either Kerala or Tamil Nadu.

Fake Doctor Continued to Advertise!

Despite an earlier intervention where his advertisement board was removed, the fraudulent practice continued. The complainant reported that Gurusingh even published an ad in an English daily, falsely promoting himself as a spine specialist.

The Road Ahead: Will the Law Catch Up?

With the SHRC pushing for strict legal action, the case is now under close watch. If convicted, Gurusingh could face serious legal consequences under Kerala’s medical laws. This incident highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement against medical fraud to protect public health and safety.
