Dentist Gets 10 Years Jail for Raping Sedated Patient in Bareilly

Did you know? A patient seeking medical help can sometimes end up being the victim of horrifying crimes, like in this shocking Bareilly rape case.

A fast-track court in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced Dr. Ravindra Prakash Sharma, a local dentist, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of raping a female patient who visited his clinic for a toothache in 2021.

This verdict, pronounced by Additional District and Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) Raghavendra Mani, marks a significant step in delivering justice in crimes involving medical professionals.

What Happened Inside the Dental Clinic?

According to Government Counsel Santosh Kumar Srivastava, the woman had visited Dr. Sharma’s dental clinic on October 16, 2021, around 4:00 p.m., seeking relief from a severe toothache.

Dr. Sharma allegedly told her that a tooth extraction was necessary and administered a sedative injection to “prepare her for the procedure.”

“Once the woman lost consciousness, he allegedly raped her,” said Srivastava.

Blackmail with a Video Recording

The crime didn’t end with the assault. In a horrifying twist, the victim’s husband alleged that the doctor recorded the rape and later used the video to blackmail his wife.

The couple filed a police complaint at Izzatnagar police station, leading to an FIR and a formal investigation.

Justice Served by Fast-Track Court

Following the investigation, the police submitted a chargesheet against Dr. Sharma. After reviewing the evidence, the court found him guilty of rape and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on Saturday.

This case is a stark reminder that abuse of medical trust can have devastating consequences. It also reflects the importance of fast-track courts in ensuring timely justice for survivors.

Know Your Rights: Patients Deserve Protection

This tragic incident brings attention to the need for:

  • Strict background checks on medical professionals
  • Stronger reporting systems in clinics
  • Awareness campaigns around patient rights

If you or someone you know feels unsafe during a medical visit, don’t hesitate to report it.

A Win for Justice, But a Wake-Up Call for All

The Bareilly court’s verdict sends a strong message: No one is above the law, not even trusted professionals like doctors. While the court’s decision provides some justice to the survivor, it also raises urgent questions about safety and accountability in healthcare settings.

Thank God the court acted fast. At least justice was served, even if the trauma can’t be undone.

What kind of person drugs and rapes a patient? And then blackmails her too? He deserves every day of that 10-year sentence.
